Business Manager / Controller

We are looking for a Business Manager/Controller at our Slotegraaf Corporate office. This role is a member of the Leadership team working work collaboratively with the current Financial Controller to plan, organize, direct, and integrate the financial operations of the company. In three years, this position assumes full responsibility of the Finance department.


  • Supervise and manage accounting staff

  • Manage areas of the accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable and internal control processes

  • Prepare forecasting reports for construction management weeks, construction hours summary, and bi-weekly cashflow

  • Vendor management including negotiating rates, create and maintain vendor contracts and payment terms

  • Conduct cost review and recovery analysis of construction quotes to support decision and/or suggest alternative selection to sales personnel

  • Create contract documents for Design and Construction contracts

  • Arrange project insurance as required

  • Assist with the development of annual budgets and report on budget variances, and recommendations for corrective action if necessary

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of market conditions that affect the home building industry and apply that understanding to the budgeting and forecasting process

  • Manage relationships with Lawyers and Insurance

  • Responsible for the creation and implementation of Financial Services policies and procedures

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives for the Finance team

  • Support the Leadership team with strategic initiatives

 Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business is required

  • CPA designation (or CPA candidacy) is a strong asset

  • Prior residential  construction industry experience managing finances and relationships will be given high consideration

  • Advanced experience with QuickBooks accounting software is a must, knowledge of Procore software would be considered an asset

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy is a must

  • The successful candidate can receive a task and run with it, works with high integrity, excellent organization, time management, and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with multiple departments in the organization
